A tropical night meditation.
A tropical night meditation.
How does it feel to be the only one in the world?
I’m experiencing such a moment right now.
Of course, I’m not truly alone. A cat lingers nearby, yet I have no idea what goes through his mind. He does not share such things.
There is a jungle surrounding everything. It has its own life. Talking, singing, praying - but that’s the Jungle’ business; it wouldn’t share. Ok, some flowers look just wonderful; the earth, welcoming the rain, is so happy that it sends out an amazing fragrance. But that’s about all.
Further out, the lights of a town stand out against the surrounding darkness of the tropical night. The view is dramatic. One can stare forever, but the lights remain remote, immersed in their own life.
And there is an ocean—the biggest mystery. Have you ever imagined its bottom, or wondered what lives there? Maybe wrecked ships, or another intelligent species. The surface glitters with moonlight. It doesn’t talk.
The cat sits beside me, maybe watching, maybe napping. How much talking would it take for him to share his impressions? I feel ready to try. Does the cat ever feel lonely?
Written at the deck of a restaurant in the Samasati Natural Retreat in Costa Rica. That night I was really the only one for miles around.
VisualWell, the cat was there too.
