This is a gentle way to begin, especially if you are new to exercise or just want to start moving more.
You can follow these simple steps at your own pace.
Let’s begin with a little preparation.
  • Start by choosing a sturdy chair that feels safe and comfortable for you.
  • Sit gently near the edge of the chair, with your feet resting flat on the floor. Rest your hands softly on your knees.
  • Let your spine grow tall and imagine looking softly into the distance. This can help you stay comfortable in the position.
  • Stay in this position for as long as it feels comfortable for you.
As you sit this way, notice how your back muscles gently release. Over time, this can help your spine feel stronger and more flexible, and may ease tension in your shoulders and neck.

When you feel ready, you might like to try a little more.
Stand up and sit down again, in any way that feels comfortable. You can repeat this a few times, moving at your own pace. Think of sitting and standing as a simple form of exercise—something you already do many times each day.
You might even notice a gentle sense of strength beginning to grow.
If you like, try placing your hands at chest level while standing and sitting. You can practice this a few times throughout your day.
Notice your experience
Notice how your body moves as you sit and stand. This simple awareness is a gentle first step toward feeling more at ease in your body and mind.
Remember to be gentle with yourself and avoid overdoing it, especially when you are just starting.
